Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale isn’t your normal Christmas story but that’s what makes me love the film so much, Rare Exports is part horror, part fantasy, part Christmas film and it manages to juggle all these genres in a careful balancing act and manages to pull it off. Rare Exports is set in Finland in the Arctic Circle and as such is most in Suomi with certain parts in English, don’t worry there are of course English subtitles. While watching the film I never found the subtitles off putting but I can see how some people would but I would say that even if you are put off this film is too good to be missed. As I said before this film is part Horror and I, as a disliker of Horror films, found this not to be scary and perfectly watchable from a horror aspect. My Girlfriend still hasn’t persuaded me to watch IT because I’m too scared to watch it but this film passes my personal test for scary films. I have seen Rare Exports before and I love the alternative take it takes towards Christmas Movies, while Bad Santa is a Christmas movie for adults I feel Rare Exports matches it and is a great movie regardless of whether its a great Christmas movie. I have watched Rare Exports every year since I was recommended it a few years ago and I would say everyone should watch it at least once a year for a different type of Christmas movie.
